Choosing a therapist
Therapy is a financial and emotional investment that can pay sustainable, satisfying dividends in terms of improved health and well-being. There are many factors that go into choosing a therapist, including appointment availability, office location, and fee. These logistics are all helpful to consider, but it is most important to have a good fit between you and your therapist. The beginning of therapy can often bring up some feelings of anxiety and nervousness, which is normal. Notice how you feel when you meet with a new therapist - Can you imagine building a sense of trust over time with this person, as you grow more comfortable? Do you feel accepted and understood? It is a good idea to plan on a 2-5 session evaluation period so you and the therapist can develop a sense of how you two will work together. |
